About Testing

Testing is one of the core activities of every local Mensa chapter, as it allows for the identification of individuals from the general population whose scores on standardized intelligence tests fall within the top 2% (a score of 148 or higher on the Cattell scale). Such a score is precisely the condition for admission to Mensa.

Mensa Serbia does not endorse online intelligence tests. These tests are not standardised psychometric instruments and cannot be considered a basis for membership or reliable result assessment. Information about valid testing is published exclusively through Mensa Serbia's official channels.

IQ is a score obtained on a standardized test used to assess certain cognitive abilities, such as logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and problem-solving. The average IQ score is 100, but the numerical result may vary depending on the scale used.

The Mensa test is a non-verbal test highly saturated with the general intelligence factor. The tasks are organised as 3x3 matrices of geometric figures, with the last square being empty, and the candidate chooses one of the offered solutions that logically completes the matrix.

For simpler tasks, one parameter is present, while for more complex ones, two or three parameters are monitored, such as form, shading, and number of elements. The test is designed so that the difficulty gradually increases, and each correct answer carries the same number of points. There are no negative points.

Before the official testing, the moderator goes through examples with the candidates and explains the principle of solving. During this introductory part, it is possible to ask questions. During the testing itself, questions about the method of solving are no longer allowed.

The minimum age for taking the test is 17. The Mensa test can be taken a maximum of three times, with a mandatory minimum period of one year between two tests. Candidates are required to provide Mensa Serbia with a unique identification number from their country of citizenship, in order to verify their eligibility to take the test.

When coming to the testing, it is necessary to bring a photo ID document with a unique personal identification number (JMBG), proof of payment, and a ballpoint pen. Minor candidates may also use another document containing their unique personal identification number for identification. Candidates in privileged categories should also have appropriate proof of their status.

Personal data of candidates is collected solely for identification, communication, and testing organization purposes. Mensa Serbia uses it only for its own needs and processes it in accordance with personal data protection regulations.

Mensa Serbia organizes testing in multiple cities, sequentially, which is why the entire process of reviewing tests, verifying candidate eligibility, and sending results takes up to eight weeks. Results are sent by mail to the address in the Republic of Serbia that the candidate provided during application.

All tests are reviewed by an authorized psychologist of Mensa Serbia, ensuring complete confidentiality. No lists of results are published, nor are results communicated publicly in any other way. Once a candidate achieves a score that qualifies them for membership, it remains valid permanently.

Mensa Serbia does not issue duplicate results older than six months from the date of testing. Candidates registered in the database can request a certificate confirming eligibility for membership, while full members can receive a membership certificate free of charge.

In addition to group testing, individual testing can be arranged at the candidate's request or as needed. This option is intended for situations where the candidate cannot attend a group session or there is a special reason for individual organization, subject to prior agreement with Mensa Serbia.
